A Nigerian woman has sparked conversation online after sharing why she threw away a plate of cooked rice she received from a neighbour during the Christmas celebration
The woman, identified on social media as @mummy_runor, posted a video showing herself carefully transferring the rice into a bag before stepping outside to dispose of it in a refuse bin. The clip, which was shared on TikTok and later circulated on X, quickly gained attention and drew mixed reactions from viewers.
According to her explanation, the rice had gone bad overnight. She stated that by the time she woke up the next morning, the food was no longer suitable for consumption. Rather than risk eating spoiled food, she decided to dispose of it.
In the video caption, she explained that the rice was fried rice and had already spoiled before morning. She emphasized that her decision was based purely on health concerns and not a lack of appreciation for the gesture.
Despite her clarification, the video triggered varied responses online. While some viewers understood her reasoning and agreed that consuming spoiled food could be harmful, others expressed disappointment over what they perceived as unnecessary food waste.
A few commenters also questioned why the food was accepted in the first place if it might not be eaten.
The incident has since fueled broader discussions on food preservation, sharing during festive periods, and how such moments are handled privately versus shared online.
