“I’m Better Off Alone” – Man Says After Spending Over 100K on a Date That Went Nowhere

Dating in today’s world can be unpredictable sometimes exciting, other times extremely disappointing. A Nigerian man recently shared his dating experience on social media, and many people can relate.

According to him, he went on a first date two weeks ago hoping to create a good impression. But things did not turn out the way he expected.

Over ₦100K Gone in One Day

He revealed he spent:

  • Food: ₦109,000
  • Bolt ride: ₦18,000

Totaling more than ₦127,000 on a first date.

Despite the high spending, the connection didn’t move forward. They are no longer talking, and he feels the effort was not appreciated.

The Red Flags

The man explained that the lady ordered a meal worth ₦90,000, and even after they couldn’t finish the food, she requested more items.

In his words:

“First ordered food of 90k, which we couldn’t finish. Only for her to order other stuff. Then they packed the rest of the food, and she took it all without asking if I cared for any. Ngl, I’m better off alone.”

This left him frustrated and questioning why he should put himself in such situations again.

“I’ve Learned My Lesson”

He concluded that he would be more cautious with first dates going forward. According to him:

  • If a date doesn’t agree to a simple place he recommends
  • And instead suggests a very expensive restaurant

He will simply walk away (or “ghost” as he joked).

Dating Expectations vs Reality

His experience has sparked online conversations about:

  • The rising cost of dating
  • People taking advantage of others’ generosity
  • Setting personal boundaries from the start
  • Choosing realistic date locations

Many agree that first dates don’t need to be expensive. A relaxed environment like a walk in the park or a budget-friendly restaurant is often enough to know whether the vibe is right.

Bottom Line

Dating should be enjoyable and mutual — not a source of unnecessary financial pressure. While trying to impress someone is understandable, both parties must show respect.

This man’s story is a reminder:

👉 Value your peace
👉 Set your standards
👉 Don’t overspend trying to prove your worth

Sometimes, as he said…
You’re simply better off alone than with the wrong person. ❤️
