The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Chief Timipre Sylva, former Minister of Petroleum Resources and one-time Governor of Bayelsa State, wanted.
According to the EFCC, Sylva is wanted in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion involving $14,859,257 (Fourteen Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Nine Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty-Seven United States Dollars).
The Commission explained that the money was part of the funds invested by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the purpose of building a refinery.
Court Issues Arrest Warrant
The EFCC revealed that on November 6, 2025, it secured a warrant for Sylva’s arrest from the Federal High Court in Lagos.
The order, granted by Justice D. I. Dipeolu, reads:
“An order is made issuing a warrant to the Applicant or any officer of the Commission, Police, or any law enforcement officer for the arrest of the Respondent for the purpose of bringing him before the Commission to answer to the criminal offence he is alleged to have committed.”
This means law enforcement agencies across the country are now authorized to arrest the former Minister and bring him in for questioning.
EFCC Seeks Public Assistance
The anti-graft agency has also called on members of the public to provide any useful information that could help locate Sylva.
The Commission urged anyone with details of his whereabouts to report to any EFCC Zonal Directorate, the nearest police station, or any other security agency across Nigeria.
The EFCC reiterated that it remains committed to fighting corruption and ensuring that public funds are used for the benefit of all Nigerians.

Timipre Sylva served as Governor of Bayelsa State between 2007 and 2012. He later became Minister of State for Petroleum Resources under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is a prominent political figure in the Niger Delta region and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This recent development adds to the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to hold public officials accountable for financial misconduct.
