Movie Review: A Night in 2025 Nollywood movie

A Night in 2025

A Night in 2025 is a Nigerian movie directed by Temidayo Makanjuola. It stars Ini Dima-Okojie, Efa Iwara, Bimbo Akintola, and Ireti Doyle. The movie tells an emotional story about a woman dealing with a painful past and her fight for justice. It touches on important topics like trauma, power, and healing.

The movie follows Ifelayo "Ife" Fadairo (played by Ini Dima-Okojie), a woman haunted by something terrible that happened to her as a teenager in 2005. During an afterparty with her best friend, Ari (Susan Pwajok), Ife is sexually assaulted by Opeyemi (Shamz Garuba), Ari’s boyfriend. This tragic event changes her life forever.

Years later, Ife is engaged to her longtime partner, Paul, but she struggles with trust and happiness. Meanwhile, Opeyemi has become a well-known politician, living his life freely while she still suffers from the past. When Ife unexpectedly comes across him again, old wounds reopen. She decides to fight for justice, but in doing so, she uncovers shocking family secrets, including things her own mother (Bimbo Akintola) hid from her.

What Makes the Movie Stand Out?
The film does a good job of showing how painful experiences can stay with someone for years. It also talks about how difficult it can be for victims to speak up, especially when the person who hurt them is powerful. The contrast between Ife’s quiet life and Opeyemi’s flashy political career makes the story even more interesting.

Acting & Performance
Ini Dima-Okojie gives a strong and emotional performance as Ife. She makes you feel her pain and determination. Efa Iwara also does well as Opeyemi, playing a character who is both charming and dangerous. Bimbo Akintola and Ireti Doyle bring experience to their roles, making the movie even more real.

What Could Have Been Better?
While the story is deep and meaningful, the movie feels slow in some parts, especially when switching between Ife’s personal struggles and the political side of the story. Some scenes could have been shorter to keep the pace moving. Also, some subplots feel rushed or incomplete. Another issue is the lack of subtitles, which might make it hard for non-Nigerians to follow.

Final Verdict
A Night in 2025 is an emotional and powerful movie that talks about important issues. It has strong performances and a good story, but it could have been even better with a faster pace and clearer storytelling.

Rating: 6/10
It’s a good movie with a strong message, but the slow pace and some unfinished subplots make it less perfect. However, it’s still worth watching, especially for those who like deep, emotional stories.
