About a half-hour drive from Disneyland is a small town in California that is perfect for families who love water sports.
Huntington Beach is known for its nearly 10 miles of beautiful beaches, mild weather, and most importantly, surfing. It is nicknamed “Surf City” and for good reason. It is considered a staging area for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Peak season is from spring to summer, but the sunny, dry, and cool weather make it a year-round vacation option. Summer temperatures don’t exceed 85 degrees Fahrenheit, and winter temperatures don’t dip below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Getting there
If you’re flying in, the closest airport is John Wayne Airport (SNA) (about 10 miles away). I flew there from New York and was able to get to the hotel in less than half an hour via Uber.
Other nearby airports include Long Beach (LGB) (18 miles) and Los Angeles (LAX) (36 miles).

There are many hotel options near the city center, including four beachfront resorts.
I also stayed at one of the Hyatt hotels and it was a great choice for families, especially because of the comfort and service.
